Midnapore College, established in 1873, became a First Grade Degree Science College as early as 1926 when honours courses of study in Physics and Mathematics were introduced at this College under Calcutta University. Since then this pioneer institute of South Bengal has been maintaining its high standard of teaching in spite of its enormous growth and development. The College came under newly established Vidyasagar University in 1985. In this context the communications received by authority from the West Bengal State Council of Higher Education and the Education Directorate regarding selection of our College for entrusting the pioneering task of introducing physical education as one of the elective pass subjects for degree students. We obtained approval of the university to teach this subject in 1996-97 session.
