Midnapore College was established in 1873, under the University of Calcutta. After a span of about 85 years, the department of Economics of this prestigious College was established in the year 1958. In 1985, the College came under the Vidyasagar University. Since then the syllabus of Economics, structured by the Vidyasagar University, which have some special thrust on rural development is followed. Time and again many renowned teachers have enriched this department. The department also produced many bright scholars who have later established themselves in different corners of the world.
