In Midnapore College (Autonomous) the Department of Philosophy is a renowned one along with other departments. It got affiliation in 1959 in Honours Course. Eminent teachers joined this department in different times. To name the late teacher Biraja Bandhab Chattopadhyaya the whole department swells with great pride. The department with Honours Course started with five students. Under the worthy patronage of Biraja Bandhab Chattopadhyaya the department flourished tremendously. He recommended many valuable books on Philosophy and enriched the College library by bringing them to the library.  In those days there was another devoted teacher Sri Amitava Banerjee who taught the students with great care.
