The Department of Botany has a colourful history of its own since its inception in 1957. The department has produced many brilliant students in the last 65 years. Most of them showed their brilliance in different spheres of life as in the fields of scientific research, administration, business & industry management. After the foundation of Vidyasagar university at Midnapore town in June 1985, the College with its present status was affiliated to the jurisdiction of Vidyanagar University by a notification of the Government of West Bengal. The first batch of Botany Honours and Pass Course students under this university took their respective degrees in 1988. 70% students in Honours Course and 90% in Pass Course got their degrees. The Post Graduate Course has been introduced in Botany in 2015. The CBCS (Choice based credit system)  has been introduced in PG course in 2016 and in UG course in 2017.
